The transformation begins on the walls. As part of Yoga Retreat for Hummingbirds, LuÃs Lázaro Matos painted the façades with human-bird figures in yoga poses and dreamlike landscapes of Es Cubells turning the house into a living birdhouse, radiant with colour and ascent.
Inside, every detail carries my mother Mia’s touch. Through countless journeys to Sluiz and treasure-hunts across the island, she gathered and rearranged pieces until each corner came alive. Curved walls, soft woods, playful textures, and mythological creatures painted on the doors turn thresholds into symbols of passage. Mornings stretch barefoot beneath the trees, evenings glow with long golden dinners — until the ordinary dissolves into magic.

LuÃs Lázaro Matos
LuÃs Lázaro Matos was born in Évora, Portugal, in 1987. He currently lives and works in Bruxelles. The art practice of Luis Lazaro Matos is mostly expressed through drawing, sculpture, animation and installation, inherently diluting the frontiers between disciplines such as design and fine art. Luis’ work often presents itself through architectural counter-proposals, reflecting his interest in drawing as a critical and satirical tool through which modernist and post-modernist utopian visions may be analyzed and reinterpreted.
