The Art Discovery Path

It was never about panels or walls — it’s about living with art. My mother Mia scattered works like landmarks along a journey, each one a pause, a conversation, a moment to sit and breathe. Many come from local artists and artisans of the island, while others are names guests will recognise from the other Magic Collection Retreats. Together they weave tranquillity with vibrancy, nature with imagination, reminding us that art and life are never apart.

SERENITY IN FLIGHT
X
Yoga retreat for Hummingbirds is a project by Luís Lázaro Matos that features several murals designed as bird houses on traditional fincas. These murals depict human-bird figures practicing yoga poses in a tranquil, dreamy landscape reminiscent of Es Cubells, Ibiza.
Hierbas Malas
X
Hierbas Malas by Adrián Balseca (2023) explores the environmental devastation caused by extractive industries in Ecuador, particularly the legacy of Texaco/Chevron's oil operations. Drawing inspiration from Judith Kimerling’s Amazon Crude, Balseca reinterprets vintage Chevron agrochemical prints as large tapestries, relocating scenes of agricultural machinery to the polluted landscapes of Nueva Loja. Indigenous plants and reclaimed soil displayed alongside evoke nature's resilience and its struggle against industrial destruction.
UNTITLED (COSTAS AZUIS)
X
Untitled (costas azuis) by Belén Uriel (2019) explores how everyday household objects reflect and shape social behaviors. Through various sculptural techniques, Uriel transforms familiar items, highlighting the cultural values embedded in material life. Her work plays with contrasts— soft and hard, fragile and strong—inviting viewers to reconsider the physical and social meanings of the objects that surround them.
PASTEL WHISPER OF WINGS
X
The pastel tones of the murals reflect the calm energy of Es Cubells andthe theme of hummingbirds, a symbol of Ibiza. The figures in the murals appear to slow down, mirroring the hummingbirds’ need for rest from their fast wing beats.
IBERIAN EUPHORIA
X
In “You Are in Spain” work, Matos references the “You Are in Spain” tourism campaign that portrayed Spain as a paradise of sun and festivities. This campaign successfully captured the image of Spanish vitality and cheerfulness.
EN DANDANAH
X
En Dandanah by Belén Uriel (2018) is a monumental sculpture in glass and metal inspired by Dandanah, The Fairy Palace, a 1920s glass building block set designed by Bruno Taut. Through this work, Uriel explores how utopian ideals of Modern Design and Architecture are embedded in material culture. By reinterpreting this rare toy, she reflects on the intersection of play, social values, and abstract forms, revealing the complex, often contradictory nature of modernist dreams.
ILLUSORY SANCTUARY
X
Matos also created an exhibition called “Hotel Dodo,” where visitors can immerse themselves in hotel room interiors and beach scenes, blurring the lines between art and reality.
PORTALS
X
Luna Paiva's sculptural playground is a series of interactive, modular structures designed for imaginative play. Drawing from organic forms and surrealist motifs, the pieces function as both abstract sculptures and usable objects—portals, tunnels, and creatures. The work merges art and utility, transforming public space into a site of creative expression and movement. It invites children to explore, climb, and invent narratives.
GEOMETRIC WHISPERS
X
Ozzola’s work juxtaposes the precision of a parallelepiped with the ephemeral beauty of tree shadows, creating a harmonious dialogue between the structural and the natural.
COMMUNION OF KIN
X
In an immersive nature setting, Matos proposes an innovativev performance involving birds as symbolic elements. He engages viewers to interact with both him and the birds, exploring the boundaries between human and avian worlds.
AVIAN DIALOGUES
X
The performance takes place in a natural reserve similar to Es Cubells, emphasizing the connection with nature. The artist’s movements symbolize constraints imposed by societal norms and environmental degradation.
NATURE’S BALLET
X
As the performance intensifies, the artist releases the birds from their cages, allowing them to explore and interact with the audience, emphasizing coexistence and shared space. This experience reconnects people with nature and fosters a deeper appreciation for the environment.
EPHEMERAL OASIS
X
The installation itself represents a conversation space, embodying both confinement and freedom. It’s a temporary structure that can be easily relocated, allowing for interactions between materials, nature, and people in various settings. This project aligns with the goals of the Es Cubells Natural Reserve preservation project, promoting a reestablishment of the dialogue with nature and creating meaningful nature-based experiences.
SYMPHONY OF COEXISTENCE
X
Throughout the performance, audiovisual elements complement the experience with birdsong, ambient music, and visual projections, reinforcing the message of preserving biodiversity and respecting the environment.
(P1-P5) KINKY
X
This artwork doubles as a furniture installation, featuring two large tables, eight benches, and ten stools made from 2,400 ceramic tiles. The title reflects the artist’s sense of playfulness and freedom during its creation. The piece combines large-scale drawings and detailed tile work, blending traditional motifs with medieval-inspired animals and quirky illustrations from everyday life.
